Basketball and the Night Watch.
He still thinks he knows it all; I've always knew I didn't. It's really kind of weird to think that in writing about the essence of basketball, the first thing you would list in order of importance is not a strategy, a game plan, or a set of plays. It is an attitude that applies to nearly every aspect of the game, but also to life in general. It's all about survival. It's always been about survival, and there's nothing that will ever change that. We have created veneers, coverings, facades, and self-justifying thoughts, anything that covers us from detection. In a perfect world, our insides would align with our outsides and that union would produce a glow. Most of us don't have that glow, but wish that we did. We live in a strange world, a world of infinite distractions, information comes at us at a dizzying rate and it's harder than ever to maintain focus in the effort to find the truth about things.
We are mainly here to learn.
